Conservationists Warn Bush Will Dismantle SafeguardsBy J.R. Pegg
WASHINGTON, DC, December 19, 2002 (ENS) - Conservation and
environmental groups are bracing themselves for what they say will be an unprecedented assault on environmental laws in the new Congress and throughout the next two years of the Bush administration.Across the board on issues of clean air, clean water and natural resource conservation, the Bush administration has already demonstrated its willingness to override public opinion and public health concerns to weaken environmental regulations, according to a panel of environmental experts speaking at a press briefing today in Washington.
With Congress now controlled by the Republicans, the threat of further rollbacks is "more far reaching and more destructive than any that have
preceded it," said Greg Wetstone, director of advocacy for the Natural
Resources Defense Council (NRDC).
Below is a list of organizations that are devoted to human rights, civil rights, animal rights, clean air, clean water, environmental concerns, conservation and preservation. New Peace Coalition
As Bush continues to beat the war drums, more and more people are speaking out against his foreign policies. The US is beginning to experience the largest peace movement this country has ever known. Over 400 non profit peace orginzations have already sprung up and formed a coalation to protest an unjustifiable pre-emptive strike policy against Iraq or any other sovereign state that doesn't represent an immediate threat to the safety and welfare of the people of the United States of American. Most Americans believe that the Bush Administration's war agenda is the direct result of the arms and energy corporations and their investment backers dictating US foreign policy in order to butter their own bread.
War for profit is totally unacceptable, unjustifiable and conflicts with the interests and desires of the American people. This movement is bi-partisan and reflects the opinions of people from all political, race, gender, ethical, economical, educational and religious persuasions. In the most recent poll conducted only 22% of the American people who were surveyed support Bush's foreign policies while 72% oppose them.
